The Maine - March 20th, 2008

1. Please introduce who you are and your position in The Maine.

I'm John O'Callaghan and I sing for the band.

2. For people who may not have heard of you yet, can you give a brief description of your band?

We like to have fun and we play rock and roll music.

3. How did you come up with the name of your band?

It's actually a song title by a band called Ivory. The song is called Coast of Maine and it's one of my favorite songs.

4. If someone hasn't heard of your music yet how would you persuade them to listen?

If you like having fun and you like listening to music then try it out but if you don't like it then you don't have to listen.

5. What's it like being on Fearless Records with bands such as the Plain White T's, Mayday Parade, and Sugarcult?

It makes you feel like a lot smaller but it's also very cool to be on the same label.

6. As a musician, what do you believe is the single thing that is most likely to make or break a musical career?

I don't even know. With the way music is going you could be a band one day and not the next. Actually, you can be a band as long as you say you're a band. I guess it all depends on how hard you work and your dedication. If you love what you're doing then it shouldn't matter.

7. What is the main message you want put out there through your music?

It's pretty cliche but realize that you don't have a lot of time here and whatever you believe in either way you're going to die so just take full advantage of everything.

8. Right now you only have an EP out. Do you have any plans to record a full length album in the near future?

Glad you asked! Actually, we just finished recording our full length album which should be out hopefully in July.

9. When touring, what do you like the most and least?

Most - Being able to play music everyday and see new places. Least - Not being able to be at home and see friends and family.

10. If you could put an ideal tour together with you guys playing who would it be with?

We've made really good friends with The Morning Light and Brighten and we really like them so probably them.

11. Do you have any influences that have inspired you to be a musician?

Not really specific ones as a musician. My dad was and still is really into music so I've just grown up around it so a lot has to do with him.
