Pierce the Veil - March 7th, 2008
1. Before we begin please state your name and what you do in the band.
I'm Vic Fuentes and I sing and play guitar in Pierce the Veil.
2. How did you come up with the name of your band?
It was back in college and I think I was in a sociology class when Pierce the Veil just popped out one day. Pierce the Veil means when you have a problem to go to the root or the source of the problem and completely cut it out from there. I think that's something that you can use in your life because sometimes the best thing to do is just cut out a problem before it drags on and hurts you over time.
3. You're currently on tour with Emery. How is it touring with those guys and how has this tour been for you so far?
All of the bands are super chill and they're down to earth guys. There's been a lot of sold out shows and it's been amazing.
4. Pierce the Veil doesn't often tour on the east coast. So when you guys do happen to make it over this way what do you look forward to the most?
I think the concerts themselves because it's always cool for us to see how we're doing on the other side of the country. I definitely hate driving on the east coast though.
5. How are the shows here compared to the west coast?
I think every city is a little different depending on how popular shows are in that area and how many kids live there. I think the east coast has its fair share of good shows.
6. Not everyone can be pleased by a band's performance on stage. How do you deal with playing to a crowd who is not so responsive and into your set?
We definitely deal with that sometimes. The thing that I hate is when we're on stage giving it everything we have and putting ourselves out as much as we can and then the crowd doesn't give it back. Sometimes that is just so hard. If the crowd is kind of quiet in the beginning we try and get them going at least by the second song.
7. Pierce the Veil made it into AP's 100 bands you need to know in 2008. What was your reaction to that and do you think it will help more in the success
of the band?
We were super excited because that's a really great honor to be chosen as one of the 100 bands. I think it will give us some kind of notority. I don't think it will hurt.
8. It's been a good while since you released your latest album, "A Flair for the Dramatic." You've had plenty of time to see people's reactions and opinions
of the record whether they were positive or negative. Therefore, was this album everything you wanted it to be and if you had the chance to go back and change anything, would you?
I definitely would not change anything. Everything has been going kind of how we wanted to for this album. It was all part of this big plan that we wanted to do - to record the album, release it, and then start touring. We've done a lot of amazing tours and it's all been going amazing.
9. You're scheduled to be on the 2008 Vans Warped Tour this summer. What are you most excited and nervous about when it comes to playing the full tour?
We're most excited because we have never done Warped Tour and it's going to be a dream come true to see tons of great bands everyday. I think we're going to learn a lot from this tour and all of the bands. I think as far as being nervous we're still trying to figure out the details of how you go on Warped tour and if we need to share a bus. I don't know how you even live on that tour. So we'll have to see!
10. There are many ways to define a band "making it." What is your definition of that and do you feel Pierce the Veil has made it yet to where you want to be?
I don't know if you can ever say that you've made it. I think if you're a really hard working artist or musician you are always trying to do something bigger. Whenever we have something cool happen to us I am always thinking what is the next step after this.
11. There always seems to be room for improvement especially for hard-working bands. What do you feel you guys want to improve the most on?
I would say literally everything - from the live act to the song writing. I'm never too afraid to admit that I can get better at stuff. When we get home from this tour I'm going to take vocal lessons to build my voice even stronger. I always want to keep us improving and growing.
12. What are your future plans for writing new music and recording?
After this Emery tour we have a little time off before Warped Tour so we're going to take that couple months and do a lot of heavy writing and also try and do writing on Warped Tour if we can.
13. Are there any last words you'd like to say?
We want everyone to come out to Warped Tour and see us on the Hurley Stage!
